The only reason I'm not giving a one-star rating is because the waitress was pleasant. The brisket was leather dry, as was the bread it was served on. The beans were strait out of a can. The slaw had way too much mayo. Why did I go to a chain BBQ place here in KC?

Seriously love the food...but getting rid off BBQ sauces how unreal still love this place...must be under new ownership bring back Texas pit BBQ

Food is good but they recently downsized their portions to be quite small. 5 small strips of beef and a chicken breast, small handful of fries and a muffin for $15.50?? Left restaurant hungry and will not likely go back. We were told this is corporate policy to have small portions. Before you wonder, I am NOT obese, just athletic and wanted to get full at the restaurant. That did NOT happen. I left hungry and frustrated...

One might say they are all the same, but low and behold that is not true, this location is so much better than the one in Independence, and I live around the corner from that one, but I cross town to come here My wife and I always have the dinner for 2 and it is worth every bite and we still end up taking plenty home. The ribs here are alway juicy and so is the brisket, great bbq without being hollered at when you walk in the door, what a concept...shtick my arse...it's rude best advice: bring your appetite

I have this place 4-stars only because when we got there there was no host/hostess up front so we waited a good 10-15 mins before even getting seated, which wasn't long, but the place wasn't even busy so someone should have been up front. Our waiter was nice, quick and served us with a smile. He came back in a timely manner to fill our drinks and to see how we were doing. Great attitude. The food was good too. My friend got the nachos and let me tell if you've never been to a famous daves the nachos are a good sized appetizer, but so good! I nabbed a few of her nachos and jalapeños on the nachos are the really spicy ones so if you love spicy this would be a good starter. I got the dinner for one and it was delicious. The ribs fell off the bone, the baked beans were wonderful, the coleslaw was good, everything that day was good! Will definitely be coming back to eat here again.

Famous Dave in Kansas is a no go. The food is great, for the money you spend the portions are very small. If you ever go to Milwuakee , Wi south 27th st, get them a holla , you spend the same amount of money and get more food on your plate image in that. Each franchise much be different.

Went for lunch on a Saturday. It was packed but the 20 minute wait rushed by. Our server was very friendly, and I appreciated that the lunch specials were good even on the weekend. The prices seemed a bit steep if not getting the lunch portion. I got the brisket platter lunch portion ($8) which came with 2 rather sparse slices of brisket, corn cobbette, corn muffin and 1 side. It wasn't overly filling but was tasty. The meat was tender and smoky but a bit fatty. Others at the table enjoyed their BBQ chicken, chopped pork and chicken tenders. While I've had better BBQ in KC, I liked the family feel of Daves. The large family portion options seemed good to groups - we saw several families around us get huge, trash-can lid serving platters of food for sharing, which seemed like a good option. The corn muffins were suprisingly good! Actually, they turned out being my favorite item. Their sweetness (maybe from honey?) was so tasty. Got the bread pudding for dessert. It was huge! Big enough for the 5 of us to share. Very tasty -It's a must have!

Not bad at all, especially for a chain. I had their burnt end sandwich with mac-n-cheese. The burnt ends had nice bark and were delicious, although a tad on the sweet side. The mac-n-cheese was creamy and had a lot of jalapeno bits. The only thing that would make it better is to use fresh jalapenos with a little more zip. Great service, nice Minnesota hunting lodge decor, and all for $14.95.

I say any BBQ restaurant that serves my meal in a trash can lid understands presentation, originality, and recycling. For a mere $22.22 my lid contained: 6 BBQ Pork ribs, a large serving of chopped pork on a slice of Texas toast, 2 tender, slightly sweet corn muffins, 2 ears of corn on the cob, 3 pieces of smoked chicken (breast, thigh, wing), BBQ pit beans, and Cole slaw. This was a Valentines' Day special, however I am told that it is also served for this remarkable price on Tuesdays. They have 6 different flavors of BBQ sauce, one for every taste. They start you off with a complementary dish of french fries, served with the sole purpose of allowing you to sample the sauces and pick a favorite. This is supposed to serve 2-3, but I say it will feed 4. My husband and I took home enough food for a second meal, 5 star price.

I walked over here for supper one day when I was in town on business and am not regretting it. We arrived a little past 8 and there was plenty of seating. We left a little after 9 and there were a few more people than when we arrived. My only regret is that the portions were generous and I could not hold back from eating it all. I had their ultimate burger and my co worker had the ribs. He loved the ribs and the burger was great. There was no problem substituting jack cheese for the American cheese that it normally comes with. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly. The service was prompt and the place was clean. It is nice and close to the hotel everyone at work uses when we have to visit this customer and Famous Dave's is on my short list of places to go for good food.

Being from KC I love BBQ and famous dave's has it! The service is fantastic, and the food is great too. Staff are helpful and friendly with good advice on sauces and food selections.

Left disappointed, mediocre at best. Menu has changed significantly, had an amazing selection but that has since changed. If it's not broke, don't fix it. Food was not the best either. Burnt ends were brittle, dry and tough. Brisket was overly powered with the brown sugar, too sweet. The lights and fans kept moving, so the ambiance inside was less than desirable. Left you dizzy with the bright flashing lights because of the fans. With all of the BBQ restaurants options in KC, I would definitely skip over this one. Not worth wasting the money on food that leaves you feeling lackluster. Don't know if the company has a new cook or recipes, but I would say stick with what you had as that was so much better.

One of the worst dining experiences ever and I'm shocked at this coming from a Famous Dave's. Out server was super slow and his attitude was horrendous!!! Especially after we asked about military discounts, service got worse. All corporate locations offer a military discount. This location is not corporate and it shows!!! Their staff was standing around gossiping about guests near the kitchen. And biggest pet peeve one was chewing gum. Ewwww. Food was horrible! Burger was dry and not seasoned and husbands wings were overbooked to the point of cremation and the sauce was slathered in extra to try and hide it. It didn't help. Waiter did not refill drinks and we left hungry and unhappy! Manager did nothing to field any complaints. I have been to the original Famous Dave's in Hayward Wisconsin and Dave would be mortified at how this place was run!!! Especially the blatant rudeness of the staff. I love Famous Dave's so it hurts to write a bad review. But this was just that BAD!!!! This was about a year ago so I pray it has gotten better since! But I for one will never be back to this location!

This place is amazing!!! The ribs are the best beating out gates ( and I love gates) the service is amazing a lot of kids there but you know they are being whipped into shape! I hate when they take away the brisket burgers they are also amazing

So I came upon this place after an exhausting session of shopping at legends. Right off the bat what struck me about the place was the delicious smell as soon as you enter. You guessed it right, BBQ sauce on smoked meat. I came here with three other people and we got the humongous platter (forgot what it's called) which consisted of a full rack of ribs, pulled pork, fried chicken, burnt ends, and 6 sides (the cornbread here is to die for!), and we were done! Service is good, and the servers are quite adept at accommodating any and all requests. All in all good food, full bar, and prime locality for conducting a post shopping chowdown. 8/10 will visit again.

I used to go there all the time. But since I went there last week, the ribs I ordered was burn and some of them did not cook all the way. Little disappointed because it use to be my favorite place to eat ribs. The servers some of them are nice but some of them are careless to customers.

Okay...I've been there twice and twice I was disappointed. This place gave me the feel of a fast food BBQ chain. Oh wait...it kinda is! Our first visit we had quite possibly the worst service I've ever experienced. We waited for over 15 minutes for someone to approach our table and take our drink/food orders. Twice I wandered back out to the seating hostess and inquired about table service. It went downhill from there. Wrong entree's and an argumentative waiter topped off a particularly, almost comedic night. Where's the camera?...this has gotta be a joke! And what's with the garbage can lid style serving platters? Who wants corn on the cob with every order? "It comes with all our meals." Great...I love paying for cooked frozen corn on the cob. Dessert? Oh sure...order it and maybe one out of 4 of you will get what they ordered. We were not so lucky. The next visit was over 2 years later. Hey...maybe it was all the evil waiter's fault. I should be fair. So, I ordered ribs and some sliced beef brisket. The waitress tells me that it is "not possible" to have those 2 meats together unless I order a third meat. I doubt she's ever seen Jack Nicholson's diner scene in Five Easy Pieces. I almost reenacted it for her, but my DH protected the poor girl from my wrath and ordered the 3 meat platter. Again the huge 3 level serving platters. Again the corn on the cob that's "free"! This time the ribs were basically tasteless. I had to drown them in sauce. The brisket had taste, but was dry and stringy. I wondered if the meat was not cut across the grain. My DH drank his lunch as he didn't like the ribs at all. It's my own fault. Why would any sane person go to a fast-food BBQ joint with free frozen cooked corn on the cob when they could just scoot up the road to Arthur Bryant's? Insane , I am.

This review will have to be mainly on the quality of service and the overall allure of this Famous Dave's because their BBQ is not really to the level of many other places in the KC area such as: Oklahoma Joes, Jack Stack, Wyandotte BBG, etc. that being said this place is mostly like all Famous Dave's with how it I set up. The staff from what I've dealt with are very friendly and attentive to their customers needs. It's a good place to grab some BBQ if your wanting to take out of town family to a sit down chain restaurant.

I love FD brisket, broccoli, corn and corn bread. I almost always get the same thing and love it. The staff at this location is always great. I have tried numerous other items and have liked them all: onion strings, salmon dip, fries, beans, bbq chicken!

Three words.... NO BURNT ENDS I don't get back to the midwest as often as i should like but when i do, i NEED some good Burnt ends. You won't get them here. Apparently they also run out of pork on occasion!!! It was Lunch on a Monday so i;ll cut them some slack, and the only reason i give them a 2 and ahalf stars is for the variety of bbq sauces to try on your table and they were all of them very good sauces. If only they had something worthy to put it on. I had a pick 2 meats and a side for $8, The pulled chicken was ok, and i had to actually sit here and think for a moment what my second meat was because they were the most unmemorable ribs i've ever had. The best thing about the meal was that at least i didn't spend alot.

Came in from California for bday eating kc affair, and this was 1st stop. To be fair, we went there at 11am which is 9am pacific time and as much as I love bbq, I'm not sure I would eat so early again. Service was really good. Nice people for sure. The food was good, but not great. We had ribs (good), pulled pork sandwich (good) and the maneater (brisket and sausage good too) as well as the burnt ends as an app. Everything was good, but I didn't have the spiritual relationship I craved like I did in Memphis. Again, in all fairness, I'm not sure I was mentally ready for the meal.

I made a trip to Nebraska Furniture Mart, and decided to stop at Famous Dave's for dinner. Yet it was their lunch hour, which I think goes until 5:00, maybe? Anyway...I really wanted the baked potato so bad. But I also wanted a corn muffin. If I ordered the baked potato, I'd have to order a corn muffin separate. That's kind of, middle of the review. Inside, it appears to be a hunting lodge with plaid Pendleton's hanging on hooks on the walls and a cozy large stone fire place with a deer head mount over it. There are antiques and it's an enjoyable comfortable atmosphere. I was waited on quickly, and bought my iced tea. He also bought out homemade barbeque potato chips, so I could sample the many sauces. One of which resides constantly in my refrigerator. It was funny sampling the Sweet and Zestyy flavor. But they have a few others, one of which is appropriately titled Devils Spit. I might replace my Sweet and Zesty I buy at the grocery store, with this. I wanted the baked potato, story already told. I decided on the 2 meat plate, ordering ribs and pulled pork. I should've gotten the potato. 2 ribs came on the plate, kind of laid there, nothing special. I got a pile of pulled pork, and my side was baked beans. ....Like I said, I want to go and eat the big baked potato. I also got a corn muffin. The ribs, (2) were really good with the Sweet and Zesty BBQ sauce. I didn't get very ambitious with that. The pulled pork was also good. The baked beans tasted kind of from a can. The corn muffin would've been better if I had ordered the big baked potato. I was unimpressed with the 2 meat lunch special. But I like Famous Daves, good prices, good service. Next time, I'm getting the big baked potato.

I've been here a few times and I've always loved their rib tips, I'm not sure why I haven't made a review but this last time I was here it was just okay to me. It wasn't as tender as usual. I get the combo with rib tips and chicken, the chicken is pretty good. I don't love the sauces but it's not bad. I like their corn bread the best and the fresh corn is good as well and their fries :).

A solid 4 star restaurant. We ate here while visiting the Great Wolf Lodge across the street and it was great. I had the build your own BBQ, and wow that was delicious- and it was different, too, so that was nice. My husband had ribs and briscuit and he enjoyed both. The sides were ok and the iced tea as well. The kids meals were generally good and well priced.

Came in after a Sporting KC game. Way more food than I needed, but perfectly delicious BBQ. Our server was nice and it's just another one of the dozens of BBQ options you have in this Cowtown (say it with pride, people!)

One of the best "pig out" dinning experiences I've had in a long time. Ordered the feast platter to share with my family of four. (Kids are 8 and 3) and there was more than enough for everyone and enough variety that everyone was happy and full. Our server, Crystal, was awesome, very friendly and complementary of my family. In fact, here demeanor and attitude really added value to the overall experience. (Thank you, Crystal.) The food is simply excellent. I mean, it isn't FAMOUS Dave's for nothing. The pulled pork and the ribs were tender and there were lots of different sauces so my sweet tooth was satisfied while my wife enjoyed the "Devil's Spit". The root beer was cold. The muffins were hot. Leftovers at midnight were an additional guilty pleasure. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

If your going to Famous Daves at the Legends you better get there early. Its always packed!!! I love their Brisket and find it has a good variety of sauces to choose from. The staff are always pleasant and have never had a bad expierence.

I get tired of people saying this is not real BBQ and that it is a chain store, gates has several stores and so does Arthur Bryants and I am sure if they wanted to they could expand out and then would they suck too cause they would be a chain? I like Famous Daves they have good food and the sauce is one of the best ever. I enjoy going here and getting food cause it is good and everytime I have been there the staff has always been nice to me.

Ok, I was nervous about this place. BBQ!?!?! RIBS!?!?! EEEEK!!! After two bad meals in Texas, I think I'm going to croak here!! I'm not a big fan of steak and ribs. But with the company of carnivores, I wasn't going to be a party pooper. To my surprise, this place turned out to be quite GOOD! No, I didn't eat the ribs. I guess I just had to be a poopy head. So I ordered the grilled salmon platter for myself while everyone decided to get two orders of the All-American BBQ Feast which fed 4-5 people. There were 9 of us. Kudos to our server who started us off with fries-- on the house! This allowed us to sample all their sauces on the table. My order came out first. The salmon turned out to be so good. Whoah, the barbecue sauce is nothing like what I had before. My meal came with three sides: corn, beans, and corn bread muffin. I was told that they'll give me the muffin later since they ran out. The muffin never came but I didn't mind. I had a taste of it from the carnivores' feast plate. The beans and the corn were very good and left crap in between my grills... smile LOL! Served in one of those aluminum trashcan lids, the AABBQ was indeed a feast! Quite creative and clever since it fit all the slab of ribs, chicken, beef, coleslaw, beans, fries, corn bread muffins and corn! Crazy! I tried the chicken...so tender and good! Again the barbecue sauce ruled! Everyone enjoyed it. The portion was more than enough for 4-5 people. With the 2 orders, we all pretty much left with TO-GO boxes.

Wow! This place never disappoints! The ribs are nice and meaty. Lots of great sides to choose from. Come hungry! I always get the mac & cheese no matter what restaurant I am at., I didn't care for theirs it was a little spicy (they add jalapenos) I know this country has some great family owned BBQ joints, but this place is a sure bet if you don't know where to go.

I always order the shredded pork sandwich. It is the best shredded pork sandwich I ever had. They give you complimentary fries and you can try their different sauces. My favorite sauce is sweet and zesty and my mom and dad loves devil's spit (which is a very spicy sauce). My whole family loves their bread and butter pickles. Their pickles are sweet, but they mix horseradish in with the pickles which gives them a spicy kick. We love their pickles so much we buy their jarred pickles at Target. Famous Daves now has a new appetizer thats really good. Its nachos topped with baked beans your choice of chicken, beef, or pork , jalapeno's, tomato's, and sour cream. My dad loved it!!!!!

One of my two favorite BBQ joints on my four week visit to KCMO. I couldn't decide what to order so I went with the Burnt Ends (Beef) as an appetizer, the Stacked & Jacked burger for an entrée and splurged for the Kahlua Hot Fudge Brownie for dessert. I wasn't worth a damn for the remainder of the day, it's a good thing I only had to go back to my hotel for the rest of a lazy Sunday.

This place was very good. Everyone there was really nice, we were recommended to try it out from the lady at the hotel. I got the brisket sandwich which was excellent and I also had the ribs, which were some of the best I ever had. All of the sauces tasted very good also, nothing was to over powering even the "devil's spit" had a little kick to it, but you were still able to enjoy your food. The prices were relatively cheap and the decor was interesting to look at as you ate. I would go back!

I love BBQ and I love Famous Dave's. I really can't explain it except to tell you to go visit. I will warn you, go hungry otherwise split the food with your guest because you will not finish it if you aren't hungry. And don't forget the sweet tea!!

I've had some of the best barbecue in the country, and i can tell what is good barbecue. I would have given 3.5 stars if yelp would let me. It was not the best bbq i've ever had, but the whole family enjoyed everything they ordered. It's solid bbq for being a chain.

Did you know that Uncle Jesse loves this place? Apparently Famous Dave's is one of Stamos Faves. ;) Actually, Dave is famous for only one thing. Making bland, generic, chain-food BBQ and ruining the genre. Please don't think this is BBQ - it's not even close. Oh no. There was like, one genre of food which did not yet have bad chains massacring its reputation nationwide. Cue Famous Dave's to end all that. I suppose Chili's and TGIF's have bastardized BBQ too, but this place claims to be traditional actual pure 100% BBQ and it is a sad, sad day. At least that one southern BBQ chain in Texas (I forgoet the name... Rudy's that's it!), at least that place is genuinely good. This is just. Oh dear. Well first of all let me say that there are lots of other BBQ alternatives that rock my world. In Buffalo for example there's a little summer shack called Wild Bill Hickory, plus the absolutely out of this world Kentucky Greg's. Why you would come here I don't know. It was someone's preference, so I came to this location in 2009, but I did not order anything, I just tried my friends' and was not impressed. It wasn't awful (hence the 2), but it wasn't great either and I absolutely love BBQ so that says a lot. Is it a joke? This is a city that has Arthur Bryant's, Gates, Jack Stack, Oklahoma Joe's, Woodyard, how do you open a Famous Dave's? It's the home of BBQ! Wow... Would you rather support the local family, or the multi national corporations and the rich men on yachts in the Carribbean? Why are the parking lots of the awesome local places usually half empty (or completely empty)? Why are the chains always so busy? Why can they afford to open so late and get all the TV advertising and all the prime intersection locations? Why are they always in shopping malls? Why go and support Denny's, Chilli's, TGIF, Olive Garden, or the horrendous Applebees? These places have systematically and coldly taken over the national food scene by using the cheapest ingredients, pre-packaged frozen systematic meals that are identical across the nation, overly high prices, rude underpaid servers on way less than minimum wage, and a ridiculously expensive mass brand advertising campaign that gets inside the heads of all the kids and the 20somethings and keeps them under the illusion that if it's not a brand name, it's not worth visiting. They spend all the money they should be investing in food and service, in advertising and cornering the market - the local places can't compete - and someday all we will be left with is the same chains serving the same food all over the world. That is our future. It's the way we're heading and you know it. Every time you eat at a bland national chain, you buy into that, you support that. Boycott chains. Support your local eateries. It's an embarrassment that generic brand national chains are even listed on a proper foodie website like Yelp, let alone getting 4 and 5 stars from so called foodies. Wake up, America, before we're all just batteries in the matrix.

Being a huge Jack Stack and Oklahoma Joe's Fan I was skeptical about trying Famous Dave's but I'm glad I finally tried it. I ordered a full slab of pork spare ribs with an extra side and it fed my wife, son and I. The meat was nicely smoked and cooked perfectly to pull right off the bone. Good flavor with Sweet and Zesty sauce! Perfect price and the service was friendly and attentive!

Service here is always outstanding, but there isn't much on the menu that won't turn you into a fat blob (especially the muffins - they are delectable fat pills). Then again, if you are dining at a BBQ chain in Wyandotte County, that's probably the least of your concerns. They have a nice variety of bbq sauces, which are always fun to experiment with. I'd go here if someone else suggested it and picked up the bill, but I'd never suggest it or pay for myself.

  • Mark G.

Some of my friends and coworkers just love this place but I sure don't. I don't understand why Dave's is so famous. Maybe it's the huge portions? It surely isn't the taste of their food. I do like their spicy BBQ sauce and their cornbread is good but everything else about this place is mediocre. Rib tips were so tough they were nearly inedible. Baked beans were kind of gross. I'd recommend passing up Mediocre Dave's and look for some real BBQ elsewhere. I'm not a huge fan of dry Texas BBQ but it tastes like heaven compared to this place. Also of note, the first Famous Dave's we tried to locate in KC MO had gone out of business. I'm not really surprised at all...

I first visited this concept for the first time in Minneapolis. There was a great blues band playing and I decided to have some dinner to soak up the beer. When they opened their first KC location, it was right up the street from my mom's house, so we checked it out. I liked it better the second time. The cajun chicken sandwich really has nothing to do with BBQ, but it is one of the better chicken sandwiches out there. I have a hard time finding a chicken sandwich that is that generous, flavorful and juicy. Plus, they do it with pepper jack and onion straws. Fries are pretty good. As far as their BBQ selection, that do a really good pulled pork sandwich. Also tried the pulled chicken and that is good too. I love their big selection of sauces. I am more of a "mustard based" sauce girl and they have a great one. Finding a memphis style sauce in KC can be really difficult and I know better then to even request such a thing at any of the real KC BBQ joints. I can indulge in my sauce on the DL at Daves. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying to choose this over the independently owned KC BBQ joints. It is just a good option if you are in proximity. Especially if you are in a hurry, because it comes out fast! They sometimes do this thing where they bring you some fries to sample the sauces prior to your meal. However, depending on the day, that may or may not happen. Sometimes they bring you chips instead of fries...I guess corporate can't decide on the best strategy. The inconsistency is kind of annoying.

The BBQ was good, but the place wasn't. As I step into the restaurant, my shoes were sticking to the floor. I thought I had glue on my shoes until I look at their floor. The mens restroom was dirty and the smells wasn't so great. Had to hold my breath the whole entire time in there and can't wait to get out. I thought I was at a truck stop restroom. Even though I went into the restroom to get cleaned up, I left feeling dirty. Will not dine in and maybe do carry out.
